There have been wonderful sightings of the Northern Lights on Skye in late September and early October and this is due to continue all winter. We have just spent a lovely sunny and breezy week on Skye - the autumn and winter can be wonderful - Skye is quiet but the weather can be wild and spectacular.

Welcome to Green Pastures, our wonderfully cosy, luxury self-catering croft cottage at Gillen on the peaceful Waternish peninsula on the Isle of Skye, with its stunning views over the sea to Trotternish and the Outer Hebrides. Watch the sun rise over the sea from the large picture windows in the main bedroom and the lounge, relax in the peace and quiet of this very special location.
Ideal as a romantic get away from it all for couples; or for two couples wanting a warm retreat; or indeed for a small family, the cottage sleeps four people in two bedrooms. The main bedroom is stylishly appointed with a king size double, and large picture windows overlooking the sea. Have breakfast in bed looking at the amazing view! The second bedroom is a light and bright double aspect twin room. There is a large lounge also overlooking the sea, with wood burning stove and comfy sofas and armchairs for relaxing. The brand new fitted kitchen with breakfast bar and underfloor heating has all modern conveniences and appliances to make your stay chore-free, whilst a newly fitted bathroom with large rainshower over the bath also has underfloor heating. The cottage also has a boot room/utility room, and a spacious entrance hall. As well as the wood burning stove, the cottage is warmed by oil fired central heating throughout plus the under floor heating in the kitchen and bathroom, so is suitable for all year round stays and cozy winter nights.
In the lounge you will find a satellite TV and DVD player, lots of books, games, and DVDs to keep you occupied. The cottage has free broadband internet so you can always stay connected! You will find suggestions for walks and things to do in the cottage, as well as ideas for where to eat if you don't feel like cooking.

The cottage is in the crofting hamlet of Gillen, on the Waternish peninsula, in the north of the Isle of Skye. We are half an hour from Portree, the island's capital.
